CIO of the Year Awards finalist: Mahbubul Alam

Silicon Valley Business Journal, and the San Francisco Business Times | June 2016

Mahbubul Alam, a finalist in the Private Company category in our 2016 Bay Area CIO of the Year Awards, shares his thoughts on his impact, his priorities and how he strikes a balance between information sharing and information security.

Movimento’s business had been focused on “reflashing” software in cars. When Alam arrived, the goal was to take the traditional world of the car from Movimento’s Detroit headquarters and bring new Silicon Valley thinking and technology to the company.

What his company does: Movimento has created automotive firmware reflashing and secure over-the-air technology for millions of vehicle updates for major OEMs worldwide.

What do you feel has been your biggest impact/success at this company? My role was to use new software and networking technology to redefine what a car is, turning it into a personalized, efficient, software-defined machine that becomes an extension of today’s technology-defined lifestyles. A total transformation was needed — new tools to automate, improve productivity and transparency, as well as revising the previous mindset of the staff and timing these transformations to support the new vision.
